Biography
Olympic swimmer and Masters World Champion Sarra Lajnef began her swimming journey at the age of four in Tunisia, inspired by her family’s active lifestyle & her older brother’s love for the sport. Growing up in a household led by military officers, Sarra learned perseverance from her parents, especially her mother, who ran marathons in combat gear.
Despite facing challenges, including competing at the 2019 Masters Swimming World Championships with a broken leg, Sarra’s resilience brought her home with five medals, four of them gold. Sarra inspires others, especially women, to embrace their dreams, proving that age and adversity are no barriers to greatness.

Achievements
Dr. Sarra Lajnef, OLY’s illustrious career spans remarkable accomplishments in swimming, triathlon and rowing, making her a true multi-disciplinary athlete. As an Olympic swimmer, Sarra has clinched numerous medals at prestigious international competitions, including six gold medals at the 2015, 2019, & 2023 FINA Master Swimming World Championships and multiple titles in Tunisia, Africa, and the Arab region. In rowing, her achievements are equally impressive, highlighted by her dominance since 2017 as the UAE National champion in the single scull. She has also shown a desire to continuously thrive, by breaking four Guinness World Records between 2022 and 2023.
Sarra’s unwavering determination continues to inspire athletes of all disciplines. Beyond the competitive arena, Sarra’s contributions extend to leadership, innovation, and advocacy. She has been honored by HH Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, for her contributions to sports and society and is the holder of a UAE Golden Visa under the professional athlete category. As a university lecturer, public speaker, and advocate for women in sports, Sarra actively works to break barriers and empower the next generation of athletes. Her pioneering efforts include organizing the region’s first NIKE Swim Clinic for Women and serving as a Co-Brand Ambassador for Swim for Clean Seas since 2019.
